Our Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning drama series HOMELAND will begin production in Cape Town, South Africa. Season four will find Carrie Mathison (Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe Award winner Claire Danes) assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the…

Was just thinking/fretting about S4 this morning, wondering how they’ll shift from the Carrie/Brody story to a more Carrie centric story, which I am very excited about. Also, how they’ll incorporate Quinn into the new storyline. He was so much apart of S2 and about 3/4 of S3, but kind of faded there at the end, right? But wow - so excited! This can’t start soon enough!

All very interesting questions, and there’s really no way of knowing for sure how they’ll handle any of them, but here’s what I think:

  • Shift from Carrie/Brody to Carrie: I think they had a lot of practice with this last season, but they did still have to service the Brody character (I actually thought they were remarkably restrained when it came to Carrie/Brody, at least in comparison to the second half of season two). Luckily there are a LOT of interesting threads to pick up and explore with Carrie’s character. They left her in such an interesting and dramatically rich (IMO, at least) place at the end. I’m also highly encouraged by the return of Meredith Stiehm as writer/producer, because after Alex Gansa I always thought she had the best grasp on Carrie’s character (and illness especially).
  • Quinn: They did such a wonderful job of exploring his character in the first 2/3 of the season and after Brody came back he understandably/predictably faded. I’m fine with this, because I put the conclusion of Brody’s arc as more important to the overall series, but I’m SO EXCITED for the continued exploration of not only his character but also his relationship with Carrie. Like, deliriously excited. I think there will be room for him now that Brody is out of the picture.
  • Overall stuff: this new location is so exciting to me. I wonder how it will look, when will the season pick up, what will have happened during the jump (if any), when will Saul be incorporated (remember he’s still in New York as a private contractor)? I have so many questions! I hope everyone is excited as I am as seeing Carrie in her element, where she feels she belongs. Losing one half of your major pairing for three seasons is such a big deal, and I think completely shifting the story to a new location could help alleviate any remnant feelings of “it feels like a piece is missing.” It feels like a really smart strategy to me.

important question: how many times can the make rupert take his clothes off this season?

Now I lie in bed and think of her,
Sometimes I even weep.
Then I dream of her behind the wall of sleep. X
